Release of distributions of Alt Workstation, Alt Server and Alt Education 9.1

Available update of the three main variants of Alt OS version 9.1 based on ninth platform ALT (p9 Vaccinium): "Alt Workstation 9", "Alt Server 9", "Alt Education 9". The most significant change is the further growth of the list of supported hardware platforms.

Viola OS is available for eight Russian and foreign hardware platforms: 32-/64-bit x86 and ARM processors, Elbrus processors (v3 and v4), as well as Power8/9 and 32-bit MIPS. Assemblies for domestic systems are supplied to processors Elbrus, Baikal-M (for the first time), Baikal-T, Elvees.

Original domestic operating systems became available simultaneously for eight Russian and foreign hardware platforms. Now they work for the following processors:

• «Alt Workstation 9» – x86 (32-/64-bit), ARM64 (NVIDIA Jetson Nano Developer kit, Raspberry Pi 3/4 and others), ARM32 (Salyut-EL24PM2), e2k/e2kv4 (Elbrus), mipsel (Tavolga Terminal);
• «Alt Server 9» – for x86 (32-/64-bit), ARM64 (Huawei Kunpeng, ThunderX and others), ppc64le (YADRO Power 8/9, OpenPower), e2k/e2kv4 (Elbrus);
• «Alt Education 9» – for x86 (32-/64-bit), ARM64 (NVIDIA Jetson Nano Developer kit, Raspberry Pi 3/4 and others), e2kv4 (Elbrus, including multi-seat configurations).

For each architecture, the assembly is carried out natively, without the use of cross-compilation.

New in Alt 9.1 OS version:

• for the first time, the image of the Alt Workstation OS for the mini-ITX board on the domestic processor is available "Baikal-M" (ARM64);
• for the first time, the Viola Workstation distribution kit was released on the ARM32 platform, it works on computers with Elvees MCom-02 boards (Salyut-EL24PM2);
• images for the popular single-board computer Raspberry Pi 4 (ARM64) of the Viola Workstation and Viola Education distributions are presented for the first time;
• Supported platforms include Huawei Kunpeng Desktop (ARM64);
• introduced for the first time a new development to support Active Directory group policies;
• for most platforms, the transition to the version of the Linux kernel 5.4 has been implemented;
• the distribution kit of the server of the 64-bit platform x86 includes the popular free platform for organizing video conferencing Jitsi Meet;
• when set in the password entry fields, you can Show passwordto avoid the consequences of an unexpected layout.

Also in the new edition of "Alt Education" the following changes were additionally made:

• added the deploy package, which is used to deploy system services using Ansible (PostgreSQL deployment is currently supported), as well as the afce, libva-intel-media-driver and grub-customizer packages;
• LiveCD fixed default installation profile and running programs with privilege escalation.

"Alt Virtualization Server", available for x86_64, ARM64 and ppc64le, is planned to be upgraded to version 9.1 in early autumn 2020.

Alt distribution kits for all platforms, except Elbrus VK, are available for free download. In accordance with the license agreement, individuals can use distributions free of charge for personal purposes.
