Release of KaOS 2020.07 and Laxer OS 1.0 distributions

There are new releases of two distributions that use Arch Linux developments:

  • KaOS 2020.07 a distribution with a rolling update model aimed at providing a desktop based on the latest releases of KDE and applications that use Qt, such as the office suite Calligra. The distribution is developed with Arch Linux in mind, but maintains its own independent repository of about 1500 packages. Assemblies are published for x86_64 systems (2.3 GB).

    The new release offers KDE Plasma 5.19.3 desktop, KDE Applications 20.04.3, Qt 5.15.0, Mesa 20.1.3, NetworkManager 1.26.0, Linux kernel 5.7.8 and more. The basic package includes an image editor photoflare, music player VVave and the Kdiff3 utility. The theme has been modernized. Added support for boot process themes based on systemd-bootloader. The Calamares installer uses QML-based modules whenever possible, including a new QML module for configuring keyboard settings and a module for configuring localization is being developed.

  • Laxer OS 1.0 is the first stable release of a distribution based on Arch Linux. The distribution was founded by a developer from Pakistan (the second developer from Poland), comes with GNOME and is focused on the maximum simplification of installation, configuration and work in the system. Installation image size - 1.8 GB. The first release was mainly focused on providing a stable foundation suitable for everyday use, on top of which it is planned to build the necessary functionality in the future, for example, it is planned to add an interface for quickly changing desktop layouts.
