A new release of uBlock Origin 1.42, the unwanted content blocker, is available to block ads, malicious elements, motion tracking code, JavaScript miners, and other interfering elements. The uBlock Origin add-on is a high performance and memory efficient add-on that allows you not only to get rid of annoying elements, but also to reduce resource consumption and speed up page loading.
Major changes:
- Fixed duplicate entries when merging imported directives.
- Ensured that the dark color scheme provided by the browser is used when selecting a dark theme in an add-on.
- Added letsblock.it lists to allowed filter sources.
- For cosmetic filters intended to replace content on a page, an experimental procedural operator ":others()" is proposed, which allows to cover all elements except for the specified set of elements.
- Implemented a mechanism to quickly fix serious problems in filters, such as the recent gmail crash due to a rule bug. The essence of the mechanism is to create an additional empty list, to which, in case of problems, rules are added to urgently change filters. uBlock Origin checks this list 6 and 24 hours after EasyList updates.
- The MVPS list, which has been abandoned for more than a year, has been removed from the main set of filters.
- When the picture element is selected, nested source elements are also selected.
