A new version of Double Commander 1.0.0, a two-pane file manager, is available, which attempts to replicate the functionality of Total Commander and provide compatibility with its plugins. Three user interface options are offered - based on GTK2, Qt4 and Qt5. The code is available under the GPLv2 license.
Of the features of Double Commander, one can note the execution of all operations in the background, support for renaming a group of files by mask, tab-based interface, two-pane mode with vertical or horizontal placement of panels, a built-in text editor with syntax highlighting, working with archives as virtual directories, advanced search tools, customizable panel, support for Total Commander plugins in WCX, WDX and WLX formats, file operation logging function.
The change in version number to 1.0.0 is a consequence of reaching the maximum value of the second digit, which, in accordance with the logic of version numbering used in the project, led to the transition to 1.0 after 0.9. As before, the quality level of the codebase is rated as beta. Main changes:
- Codebase development moved from Sourceforge to GitHub.
- Added mode for performing file operations with elevated privileges (with administrator rights).
- Supported copying of extended file attributes.
- Implemented a vertical toolbar placed between the panels.
- The ability to separately configure the formatting of the field with the file size in the header and bottom of the screen.
- Synchronous navigation has been added to allow synchronous directory changes in both panels.
- Added a function to find duplicates.
- In the directory synchronization dialog, an option was added to delete selected items and the correct progress of file operations was displayed.
- Added support for the Zstandard compression algorithm and ZST, TAR.ZST archives.
- Added support for calculating and verifying BLAKE3 hashes.
- A search is provided in archives located inside other archives, as well as a search for text in XML-based office document formats.
- In the viewer, the design of the panel has been changed and a search using regular expressions has been implemented.
- Supported loading thumbnails from mp3 files.
- Added Flat view mode.
- Improved error handling and going offline when working with network storages.
