Midnight Commander 4.8.23 file manager release

After six months of development published console file manager release Midnight Commander 4.8.23, distributed in source code under the GPLv3+ license.

List of major changes:

  • Significantly faster deletion of large directories (before, recursive deletion of directories was significantly slower than "rm -rf" since each file was iterated and deleted separately);
  • The layout of the dialog displayed when trying to overwrite an existing file has been redesigned. The "Update" button has been renamed to "If older". Added option to disable overwriting with empty files;

  • Added the ability to override hotkeys for the main menu;
  • Extended syntax highlighting rules for Shell, ebuild, and RPM SPEC files in the built-in editor. Fixed issues with highlighting some constructs in C/C++ code. Provided use of ini.syntax rules to highlight the contents of systemd configuration files. The sh.syntax rules extended regular expressions for parsing filenames;
  • In the built-in viewer, the ability to quickly one-time reverse search using the Shift + N combination has been added;
  • Cleaned up the code;
  • As the main image viewer in the settings, Geeqie (a fork of GQview) is defined, and if it is not available, GQview is called;
  • Updated rules for highlighting filenames. Files
    ".go" and ".s" are now highlighted as code, and ".m4v" as multimedia information;

  • A new "featured-plus" color scheme has been added, close to the FAR and NC color scheme (for example, other colors are set for directories and highlighting selected files);
  • Fixed build issues on AIX.
