After eight months of development, Midnight Commander 4.8.27, a console file manager released in source code under the GPLv3+ license, has been released.
List of major changes:
- Added an option to follow symbolic links ("Follow symlinks") to the "Find File" dialog.
- The minimum versions of components required for building have been increased: Autoconf 2.64, Automake 1.12, Gettext 0.18.2 and libssh2 1.2.8.
- Significantly reduced build time after version change.
- A separate configuration file ~/.local/share/mc/.zshrc has been added for zsh.
- The widget system has been redesigned, the WST_VISIBLE state has been implemented to show and hide widgets.
- VFS module extfs added support for unrar 6 and official 7z builds.
- Ported file list parser from lftp project to ftpfs.
- The built-in editor provides syntax highlighting for Verilog and SystemVerilog header files, openrc-run scripts, and JSON format. Updated syntax highlighting scripts for Python
- The panels provide highlighting of c++ and h++ files as source texts, and JSON files as documents.
- Added support for alacritty and βfoot terminal emulators.
- Added support for fb2 e-book format to mc.ext.
- ext.d uses the mediainfo utility to display information about various media files.
- Fixed vulnerability CVE-2021-36370 in the SFTP-enabled VFS module due to the lack of verification of fingerprint fingerprints of host keys.
