Release of GCompris 3.0, an educational kit for children aged 2 to 10

Introduced the release of GCompris 3.0, a free learning center for preschool and primary school children. The package provides more than 180 mini-lessons and modules, offering from the simplest graphics editor, puzzles and keyboard simulator to math, geography and reading lessons. GCompris uses the Qt library and is developed by the KDE community. Ready builds are generated for Linux, macOS, Windows, Raspberry Pi and Android.

In the new version:

  • Added 8 new lessons, bringing the total number of lessons to 182:
    • A mouse click simulator that develops skills in working with a mouse manipulator.
    • Lesson "Creating fractions", visually introducing fractions using pie or rectangular charts.
    • Lesson "Search for fractions", offering to determine the fraction based on the diagram shown.
    • Lesson for learning Morse code.
    • A Number Comparison lesson that teaches you how to use the comparison symbols.
    • Lesson of adding numbers to tens.
    • The lesson is that the amount does not change from changing the places of the terms.
    • Lesson about the expansion of terms.

  • Implemented command line option "-l" ("--list-activities") to list all available lessons.
  • Added command line option "--launch activityNam" to launch with transition to a specific lesson.
  • A full translation into Russian is offered (in the previous version, translation coverage was 76%). The readiness of translation into Belarusian is estimated at 83%. In the last release, the project was completely translated into Ukrainian, this release additionally added audio files with dubbing in Ukrainian. The Save the Children organization organized the shipment of 8000 tablets and 1000 laptops with pre-installed GCompris to children's centers in Ukraine.
