The release of the GhostBSD 21.04.27 desktop-oriented distribution is available, built on the basis of FreeBSD and offering a MATE user environment. By default, GhostBSD uses the OpenRC init system and the ZFS file system. Both Live mode and installation to a hard drive are supported (using its own ginstall installer written in Python). Boot images are generated for the x86_64 architecture (2.5 GB).
In the new version:
- Transitioned to FreeBSD 13.0-STABLE and OpenZFS 2.0.
- The full functionality of the OpenRC services devmatch and devd is provided.
- devd is used to manage network device settings. Added support for launching unique devices in network services.
- Added support for touch screens.
- Added new ZFS services. The installer provides support for OpenZFS 2.0.
- A new icon design theme has been proposed.
- Improved OpenRC services.
