GIMP 2.10.30 graphics editor release

GIMP 2.10.30 has been released. Flatpak packages are available for installation (the snap package is not ready yet). The release mainly includes bug fixes. All feature building efforts are focused on preparing the GIMP 3 branch, which is in pre-release testing.

Changes in GIMP 2.10.30 include:

  • Improved support for AVIF, HEIF, PSD, DDS, RGBE, and PBM file formats. For example, the AOM encoder is used to export AVIF, and support for additional content options has been added in the PSD format (wrong-dimensional layer masks, CMYK without transparency or layers, merged images with 16-bit per RGBA color channel having an opaque alpha channel) .
  • For Linux and systems that use Freedesktop portals to access resources outside of the container, a color picker is provided by calling the Freedesktop API. In addition, the screenshot tool now prioritizes the Freedesktop API and, when available, overrides the KDE and GNOME specific APIs (in KDE 5.20 and GNOME Shell 41, these APIs were restricted for security reasons).
  • From the 2.99.8 branch, a change has been moved to correctly display the border of the selection on releases of macOS since "Big Sur" that previously did not show outlines on the canvas.
  • On the Windows platform, the transition to the use of the WcsGetDefaultColorProfile() API has been made instead of the GetICMProfile() function, the correct operation of which was broken in Windows 11 (there is a failure when trying to get a monitor profile).
  • Improvements have been made to the core and plugins related to metadata support.
  • The text tool has deprecated the system settings for sub-pixel font rendering, as this type of font rendering is intended to improve the display of the GUI on LCD monitors and is not intended for use in images that can be scaled, printed, and displayed on different types of screens.
