GIMP 2.10.34 has been released. Flatpak packages are available for installation (the snap package is not ready yet). The release mainly includes bug fixes. All feature building efforts are focused on preparing the GIMP 3 branch, which is in pre-release testing.
Changes in GIMP 2.10.34 include:
- In the canvas size dialog, the ability to select predefined templates that describe typical sizes corresponding to common page formats (A1, A2, A3, etc.) has been added. The size is calculated based on the actual size, taking into account the selected DPI. If the DPI of the template and the current image are different when the canvas is resized, the choice is to change the DPI for the image or scale the template to match the DPI of the image.
- In the Layer, Channel and Path dialogs, a small title has been added above the list of elements, containing hints about the possibility of activating the switches "ποΈ" and "π".
- On the Linux platform, the implementation of the eyedropper tool reverted to the old code for determining the color of an arbitrary point using X11, since the transition to using "portals" for Wayland-based environments led to regressive changes due to the fact that most portals do not return information about color. In addition, the code for color detection on the Windows platform has been completely rewritten.
- Improved support for TIFF format. Correct import of reduced pages from TIFF files is provided, which can now be loaded as a separate layer. A switch has been added to the import dialog for loading shortened pages, which is enabled by default, but is disabled if there is only one thumbnail image in the file and it occupies the second position (it is assumed that in this case the thumbnail image is a thumbnail of the main image).
- When exporting to files in PSD format, the ability to include contours is implemented. For PSD, there is also support for loading words with a clipping attribute.
- Added support for exporting JPEG XL images. The ability to import files in JPEG XL format has been extended with support for metadata.
- Added support for transparency in PDF. An option has been added to the PDF import dialog to fill transparent areas with white, and an option has been added to the export dialog to fill transparent areas with a background color.
- The ability to export images in RAW format with an arbitrary color depth value is provided.
- In the dialogs for choosing a color and changing the background/foreground color, the selected color gradation (0..100 or 0..255) and color model (LCh or HSV) are saved between sessions.
- Updated library versions babl 0.1.102 and GEGL 0.4.42.
