Release of Green Linux, editions of Linux Mint for Russian users

The first release of the Green Linux distribution is presented, which is an adaptation of Linux Mint 21, prepared taking into account the needs of Russian users and freed from being tied to an external infrastructure. Initially, the project developed under the name Linux Mint Russian Edition, but was eventually renamed. The size of the boot image is 2.3 GB (Yandex Disk, Torrent).

The main features of the distribution:

  • The root certificate of the Ministry of Digital Development is integrated into the system.
  • Firefox has been replaced by Yandex Browser, and LibreOffice has been replaced by the OnlyOffice package, which is being developed in Nizhny Novgorod.
  • To install packages, a mirror of Linux Mint repositories deployed on their servers is used. Ubuntu repositories have been replaced with a mirror maintained by Yandex.
  • Russian NTP servers were used for time synchronization.
  • Applications that are not relevant for Russian users have been removed.
  • The Linux kernel and system settings have been optimized.
  • Added the ability to set the minimum version.

Over the next few months, it is planned to make a complete rebranding of the distribution and implement its own update system that allows you to release updates independently of Linux Mint.
