On December 16, the gtk 4.0 graphical toolkit was released.
The new release adds new widgets, support for the built-in media player, improvements to GPU acceleration, and improved support for other operating systems.
What's new:
- Constraint-based layout: a method of constructing a layout in which the size of elements depends on the borders and sizes of others
- Data Exchange API are no longer a copy of the same APIs from X11, but implemented closer to the Wayland API
- Redesigned creation methods custom widgets
- Objects for shaders
- Scalable Lists
- Integrated media player
The developers stated that despite the release of the fourth branch of the toolkit, the third one will still be developed and supported, however, the second branch has βreached the end of its lifeβ, another minor release is planned, after which support for the second branch will be over.
