SeaMonkey Integrated Internet Application Suite 2.53.9 Released

The SeaMonkey 2.53.9 set of Internet applications has been released, which combines a web browser, an email client, a news feed aggregation system (RSS / Atom) and a WYSIWYG html page editor Composer within one product. The Chatzilla IRC client, the DOM Inspector web development toolkit, and the Lightning calendar scheduler are offered as preinstalled add-ons. The new release brings fixes and changes from the current Firefox codebase (SeaMonkey 2.53 is based on the Firefox 60.8 browser engine, porting security-related fixes and some improvements from current Firefox branches).

Among the changes:

  • Added a setting to clear navigation history during shutdown.
  • ChatZilla has added an Uninstall Plugin command to remove installed plugins, an editor for adding IRC networks, updated status bar icons, and added support for the 99 color code used in mIRC. Instead of images, emoji output uses unicode characters.
  • Added basic support for the mechanism for negotiating client and server capabilities - CAP (Client Capability Negotiation), defined in the IRCv3 specification.
  • Added support for IRCv3 extensions away-notify (allows the client to track changes in the state of other users), chghost, userhost-in-names, self-messaging and echo-message, as well as the WHOX command.
  • The implementation of search on the web and in ChatZilla has been unified.
  • When viewing a received letter, the Send button has been removed.
  • It is possible to mark a letter as unread by pressing the β€œu” key (lower case), and not just β€œU” (Shift+u).
