The August 21.08 rollup update of applications developed by the KDE project has been released. As a reminder, the consolidated set of KDE applications has been published since April under the name KDE Gear, instead of KDE Apps and KDE Applications. - The Okular document viewer now has the ability to add a button to the toolbar to switch the color of the text and page background from black letters on a white background to dark red letters on a gray background, which is more comfortable to read (the button is added via the Configure Toolbars section in the context menu). An option has been provided to disable pop-up notifications about files, forms, and signatures embedded in a document. Also added settings for selective hiding of various types of annotations (highlighting, underlining, framing, etc.). When adding an annotation, the navigation and selection modes are automatically turned off so that you do not accidentally go to another area and select text for the clipboard instead of marking for annotation.
- Support for previewing images and directories has been added to the Konsole terminal emulator - hovering over the name of a file with an image will now show the user a thumbnail of the image, and hovering over the name of the directory will show information about the contents. Clicking on a file name will launch the handler associated with the file type (eg Gwenview for JPG, Okular for PDF, and Elisa for MP3). Moreover, by holding the Alt key while clicking on a file name, the file can now be moved to another application in drag-and-drop mode.
If it is necessary to display several tabs at the same time, a new button has been proposed in the toolbar, and combinations Ctrl + "(" and Ctrl + ")" have been added to split the window and show several tabs at once. To enable the plugin, use the "Plugins > Show SSH Manager" menu, after which a sidebar will appear with a list of SSH hosts added to ~/.ssh/config.
- The Gwenview image viewer has received performance improvements and interface improvements. The lower right corner offers a new compact set of buttons that allow you to quickly change the scale and size, as well as change the background color.
During navigation, you can now use the arrow buttons and cursor keys located in the panel to move from one image to another. You can use the space bar to stop and resume video playback. Added support for displaying images with 16-bit color per channel and reading color profiles from files in various formats. The hamburger menu shown in the upper right corner has been restructured to provide access to all available options.
- Added party mode to the Elisa music player, enabled by pressing F11. When exiting the program, the track parameters are saved to continue playback from the interrupted position after the start.
- The Spectacle screenshot program provides the ability to take a screenshot of the window the mouse cursor is over (activated by pressing Meta + Ctrl + Print). Significantly improved reliability in Wayland-based environments.
- The Kate text editor has simplified the work with templates of ready-made code snippets (Snippets), which can now be downloaded through the Discover application management manager. Based on LSP (Language Server Protocol), support for the Dart programming language is implemented.
- The video editor Kdenlive has been upgraded to a new release of the MLT 7 framework, which has made it possible to implement features such as adding clip speed changes to the number of keyframe effects. Improved task manager. File import and project opening operations have been accelerated.
- The KDE Connect app has been updated to integrate the KDE desktop with your smartphone. The new version implements support for sending replies directly from message notifications.
