As a reminder, the consolidated set of KDE applications has been published since April under the name KDE Gear, instead of KDE Apps and KDE Applications. In total, releases of 226 programs, libraries and plug-ins were published as part of the update. Information about the availability of Live builds with new releases of applications can be found on this page.

The most notable innovations:

  • Dolphin file manager changes:
    • Improved the ability to evaluate the contents of directories through the display of thumbnails - if there are a large number of files in the directory, then when hovering over the thumbnails with their contents are now scrolled, which makes it easier to determine the presence of the desired file.
    • Added preview support for files hosted in encrypted areas such as Plasma Vaults.
    • F11-enabled information panel showing detailed information about files and directories has real-time update of data on size and access time, which is useful for tracking download progress and changes.
    • The interface for renaming multiple files has been simplified: after renaming the selected file using the F2 key, you can now press the Tab key to move to renaming the next file or Shift + Tab to rename the previous one.
    • The ability to highlight the file name by analogy with the text to place the name on the clipboard is provided.
    • Added the ability to call the basket settings to the context menu shown when right-clicking on a basket in the Places sidebar.
    • Cleaned up the hamburger menu shown in the top right corner.

  • The Okular document viewer now has the ability to add a button to the toolbar to switch the color of the text and page background from black letters on a white background to dark red letters on a gray background, which is more comfortable to read (the button is added via the Configure Toolbars section in the context menu). An option has been provided to disable pop-up notifications about files, forms, and signatures embedded in a document. Also added settings for selective hiding of various types of annotations (highlighting, underlining, framing, etc.). When adding an annotation, the navigation and selection modes are automatically turned off so that you do not accidentally go to another area and select text for the clipboard instead of marking for annotation.

  • Support for previewing images and directories has been added to the Konsole terminal emulator - hovering over the name of a file with an image will now show the user a thumbnail of the image, and hovering over the name of the directory will show information about the contents. Clicking on a file name will launch the handler associated with the file type (eg Gwenview for JPG, Okular for PDF, and Elisa for MP3). Moreover, by holding the Alt key while clicking on a file name, the file can now be moved to another application in drag-and-drop mode.

If it is necessary to display several tabs at the same time, a new button has been proposed in the toolbar, and combinations Ctrl + "(" and Ctrl + ")" have been added to split the window and show several tabs at once. The size of each area can be adjusted with the mouse, and the final layout can be saved for later use via the menu β€œView > Save tab layout to file…”. Of the innovations, the SSH plugin stands out separately, which allows you to perform actions on external hosts, for example, you can use it to create a directory on another system with which a connection is configured via SSH. To enable the plugin, use the "Plugins > Show SSH Manager" menu, after which a sidebar will appear with a list of SSH hosts added to ~/.ssh/config.
