Release of cluster FS Luster 2.15

The release of the Luster 2.15 cluster file system, used in most of the largest Linux clusters containing tens of thousands of nodes, has been published. The key components of Luster are metadata processing and storage servers (MDS), management servers (MGS), object storage servers (OSS), object storage (OST, support for running on top of ext4 and ZFS) and clients. The project code is distributed under the GPLv2 license.

Release of cluster FS Luster 2.15

Main innovations:

  • The Client Directory Encryption mode has been implemented, which allows you to encrypt the names of files and directories on the client side, at the stage before transferring data over the network and before saving in object storages (OST) and metadata storages (MDT).
  • A UDSP (User Defined Selection Policy) mechanism has been added that allows users to define rules for selecting network interfaces for data transfer. For example, if you have a connection via o2ib and tcp networks, you can configure Luster traffic to be transmitted only through one of them, and use the second for other needs.
  • Provided server support for RHEL 8.5 kernel package (4.18.0-348.2.1.el8), and clients for unmodified RHEL 8.5 kernels (4.18.0-348.2.1.el8), SLES15 SP3 (5.3.18-59.27) ) and Ubuntu 20.04 (5.4.0-40).
