GNU screen 4.9.0 console window manager released

After two years of development, the release of the full-screen console window manager (terminal multiplexer) GNU screen 4.9.0 has been published, which allows using one physical terminal to work with several applications, which are allocated separate virtual terminals that remain active between different user sessions.

Among the changes:

  • Added escape sequence '%e' to show the encoding used in the status bar (hardstatus).
  • On the OpenBSD platform, the openpty() call is used to access the terminal.
  • Fixed vulnerability CVE-2021-26937, which caused a crash when processing a certain combination of UTF-8 characters.
  • Added an 80-character session name limit (previously using too long names resulted in a crash).
  • The problem with ignoring the username specified through the "-X" option has been fixed.
