Release of Latte Dock 0.10, alternative dashboard for KDE

After two years of development, Latte Dock 0.10 is released, offering an elegant and simple solution for managing tasks and plasmoids. Including the effect of parabolic increase in icons in the style of macOS or the Plank panel is supported. The Latte panel is based on the KDE Frameworks and the Qt library. Supports integration with the KDE Plasma desktop. The project code is distributed under the GPLv2 license.

The project was founded as a result of the merger of panels similar in their tasks - Now Dock and Candil Dock. After the merger, the developers tried to combine the principle of forming a separate panel that works separately from the Plasma Shell, proposed in Candil, with the high-quality interface design inherent in Now Dock and using only KDE and Plasma libraries without third-party dependencies.

Main innovations:

  • Provided the ability to place multiple panels from one edge of the screen.
  • Added support for popup panels.
  • Added the ability to set the radius of rounding of the corners of the panels and determine the size of the shadow from the panel.
  • 10 panel visibility modes are offered.
  • Added a mode for the appearance of side panels when necessary, in which the panel appears and hides only after the user interacts with external applets, scripts or shortcuts.
  • Provided the Plasma desktop with information about the geometry of the Latte Dock panels, as well as the transmission of window managers that support GTK_FRAME_EXTENTS, data about the visible area for the correct positioning of windows.
  • A built-in download and add widgets dialog (Widgets Explorer) has been added that can be used in non-KDE environments, including GNOME, Cinnamon and Xfce.
  • Added support for placing multiple Latte Tasks applets on the same panel.
  • Added a new applet alignment mode in the panel.
  • The parabolic effect of iterating over applets in the panel has been implemented.
  • Added support for MarginsAreaSeparators from KDE Plasma to allow for smaller widgets.
  • The design of all dialogs for managing the placement of elements on the panel has been changed. The user is given the opportunity to define his own color scheme for each panel layout.
  • Panels support moving, pasting and copying elements through the clipboard.
  • Added the ability to export the layout of elements to panels and use the panels as templates to recreate the same form for other users.
