Release of antiX 23.1 lightweight distribution

The lightweight Live distribution AntiX 23.1, built on a package base, has been published Debian and aimed at installation on legacy hardware. The release is based on a package base Debian 12, but comes without the systemd system manager and with eudev instead of udev. Runit or sysvinit can be used for initialization. The default user environment is created using the IceWM window manager, but fluxbox, jwm, and herbstluftwm are also included. ISO image sizes are: 1.7 GB (full, includes LibreOffice and four window managers – IceWM, fluxbox, jwm, and herbstluftwm), 1.1 GB (basic), 531 MB (no graphics), and 613 MB (network installation). Builds are available for the x86_64 and i386 architectures.

In the new release:

  • Synchronization with the package database has been completed Debian 12 (Bookworm). The full build offers the kernel Linux 6.1.60, and in other assemblies 5.10.197.
  • Application versions have been updated, for example, LibreOffice 24.2.0, Firefox 115.8.0, Seamonkey 2.53.18.1.
  • Added antiX TV and antiX Radio applications for watching streaming TV and listening to Internet radio (linked over MPV).
  • Added Finder script to search for files, installed programs and other information.
  • Added antiX SAMBA Manager configurator for managing shared SAMBA partitions.
  • Added antiX Equalizer button to enable and disable Easyeffects equalizer in Pipewire.
  • Added antiX Acoustic Colors configurator to change the sound timbre.
  • The meld utility is included, providing a graphical interface for evaluating differences between files and for merging files.
