CRUX 3.7 Linux Distribution Released

After almost two years of development, the release of an independent lightweight Linux distribution CRUX 3.7, developed since 2001 in accordance with the concept of KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid) and focused on advanced users, has been formed. The goal of the project is to create a distribution kit that is simple and transparent for users, based on BSD-like initialization scripts, having the most simplified structure and containing a relatively small number of ready-made binary packages. CRUX supports a system of ports that makes it easy to install and upgrade FreeBSD/Gentoo style applications. The size of the iso image prepared for the x86-64 architecture is 1.1GB.

The new release has updated versions of system components, including Linux kernel 5.15, glibc 2.36, gcc 12.2.0, binutils 2.39. By default, an X-server-based environment (xorg-server 21.1.4, Mesa 22.2) continues to be shipped, but the Wayland protocol is implemented as an option. The ISO image is built in a hybrid representation suitable for booting from DVD and USB media. Installed with UEFI support.
