Release of LXLE Focal, a distribution for legacy systems

After more than two years since the last update, the LXLE Focal distribution is being released, evolving for use on legacy systems. The LXLE distribution builds on the legacy of Ubuntu MinimalCD and attempts to provide a lightweight solution that combines support for legacy hardware with a modern user environment. The need to create a separate branch is due to the desire to include additional drivers for older systems and the processing of the user environment. The size of the boot image is 1.8 GB.

To navigate the global network, the distribution offers the LibreWolf browser (a rebuild of Firefox with changes aimed at improving security and privacy). uTox is provided for messaging and Claws Mail for email. Updates are installed using their own uCareSystem update manager, which is launched using cron in order to get rid of unnecessary background processes. The default file system is Btrfs. The graphical environment is built on the basis of LXDE components, the Compton composite manager, the interface for running Fehlstart programs and applications from the LXQt, MATE and Linux Mint projects.

The composition of the new release is synchronized with the package base of the Ubuntu 20.04.4 LTS branch (Ubuntu 18.04 was previously used). Default application replacements: Arista replaced by HandBrake, Pinta by GIMP, Pluma by Mousepad, Seamonkey by LibreWolf, Abiword/Gnumeric by LibreOffice, Mirage by Viewnior, Linphone/Pidgin by uTox. Includes: App Grid Install Center, Blanket Sound Synthesizer, Bluetooth Configurator, Claws Mail Email Client, Liferea RSS Reader, GAdmin-Rsync Backup Utility, GAdmin-Samba File Sharing Setup, Osmo Scheduler, Interface for TLP GUI power optimization. To compress information in the swap partition, Zswap is used instead of Zram. Added an interface for customizing pop-up notifications.
