Release of the LineageOS 17 mobile platform based on Android 10

Developers of the project LineageOS, which replaced CyanogenMod after the abandonment of the project by Cyanogen Inc, presented LineageOS 17.1 release based on platform Android 10. Release 17.1 was formed bypassing 17.0 due to the nature of tagging in the repository.

It is noted that the LineageOS 17 branch has reached parity in functionality and stability with branch 16, and is recognized as ready for the transition to the stage of forming nightly builds. Builds so far prepared only for a limited number of devices, the list of which will gradually expand. The 16.0 branch has been switched to weekly builds instead of daily builds. At installation all supported devices now offer their own Lineage Recovery by default, which does not require a separate recovery partition.

Compared to LineageOS 16, apart from changes specific to Android 10, some improvements are also suggested:

  • A new interface for taking screenshots, allowing you to select specific parts of the screen to capture and edit screenshots.
  • The ThemePicker, offered by AOSP (Android Open Source Project), has been moved. The Styles API previously used for theme selection has been deprecated. ThemePicker not only supports all the features of Styles, but also outperforms it in terms of functionality.
  • Implemented the ability to change fonts, icon shapes (QuickSettings and Launcher) and icon style (Wi-Fi/Bluetooth).
  • In addition to the ability to hide applications and block the launch by assigning a password in the Trebuchet Launcher application launcher interface, it is now possible to restrict access to the application through biometric authentication.
  • The patches accumulated since October 2019 have been moved.
  • The assembly is based on the android-10.0.0_r31 branch with support for Pixel 4/4 XL.
  • The Wi-Fi screen has returned.
  • Added support for on-screen fingerprint sensors (FOD).
  • Added support for camera popup and camera rotation.
  • The emoji set in the AOSP On-Screen Keyboard has been updated to version 12.0.
  • The WebView browser component has been updated to Chromium 80.0.3987.132.
  • Instead of PrivacyGuard, the regular PermissionHub from AOSP is used for flexible management of application permissions.
  • Instead of the Expanded Desktop API, regular AOSP navigation tools are used through on-screen gestures.
