Release of the LineageOS 18 mobile platform based on Android 11

The developers of the LineageOS project, which replaced CyanogenMod after the abandonment of the Cyanogen Inc project, introduced the release of LineageOS 18.1, based on the Android 11 platform. Release 18.1 was formed bypassing 18.0 due to the peculiarities of assigning tags in the repository.

It is noted that the LineageOS 18 branch has reached parity in functionality and stability with branch 17, and is recognized as ready for the transition to form the first release. Assemblies are prepared for more than 140 devices. Instructions for running LineageOS 18.1 on Android Emulator and Android Studio have been prepared. Added ability to build for Android TV. When installed, all supported devices are offered their own Lineage Recovery by default, which does not require a separate recovery partition. LineageOS 16 builds have been discontinued.

Compared to LineageOS 17, in addition to changes specific to Android 11, some improvements are also proposed:

  • Switched to the android-11.0.0_r32 branch from the AOSP (Android Open Source Project) repository. The WebView browser engine is synchronized with Chromium 89.0.4389.105.

To use Seedvault, you must change the backup provider via the Settings -> System -> Backup menu.
  • For older devices without A / B partitions, an option has been added to update the recovery image along with the operating system (Settings -> System -> (Show More) Updater -> β€œβ€¦β€ menu in the upper right corner -> β€œUpdate recovery alongside OS”)
  • Updated Eleven music player interface. Ported all the new stock Android features for music apps, including support for changing the playback position from the notification area.
  • Added support for dark theme in all applications.
  • In recovery, a new color interface is proposed, which is more convenient to use.
  • The ability to block all connections of the selected application has been added to the firewall (the application will consider that the device is in flight mode).
  • A new volume change dialog has been added that allows you to control the volume for different streams.
