Release of MPlayer 1.5 media player

Three years after the last release, the MPlayer 1.5 multimedia player has been released, which provides compatibility with the latest version of the FFmpeg 5.0 multimedia package. The project code is distributed under the GPLv2+ license. Changes in the new version come down to integrating improvements added over the past three years to FFmpeg (the codebase is in sync with the FFmpeg master branch). A copy of the new FFmpeg is included in the base distribution of MPlayer, eliminating the need to install dependencies when building.

Among MPlayer-specific changes:

  • Added multilingual support to the GUI. The choice of language for the text in the interface is selected based on the LC_MESSAGES or LANG environment variable.
  • Added "--enable-nls" option to enable language support at runtime (by default, language support is only enabled in GUI mode yet).
  • A built-in skin style has been added that allows you to use the GUI without installing style files.
  • Support for the ffmpeg12vpdau decoder has been dropped, replaced by two separate components ffmpeg1vpdau and ffmpeg2vdpau.
  • Deprecated and disabled by default live555 decoder.
  • Provided clearing the screen after switching to full screen mode when using the output driver through the X server.
  • Added "-fs" option (similar to the load_fullscreen setting) to open in full screen mode.
  • In the interface, the problem with incorrect setting of the window size after returning from full screen mode has been fixed.
  • The OpenGL output driver provides correct styling on X11 systems.
  • When building for the ARM architecture, the extensions offered by default are enabled (for example, Raspbian does not use NEON instructions by default and you must explicitly specify the option "--enable-runtime-cpudetection" when building to enable all CPU features).
