Audacious Music Player 4.3 Released

The release of the lightweight music player Audacious 4.3 is presented, which once branched off from the Beep Media Player (BMP) project, which is a fork of the classic XMMS player. The release comes with two user interfaces: based on GTK and Qt. Builds are prepared for various Linux distributions and for Windows.

Key innovations in Audacious 4.3:

  • Added optional support for GTK3 (GTK builds continue to use GTK2 by default).
  • Support for Qt 6 has been stabilized, but Qt 5 continues to be used by default.
  • Added a plug-in for output via the PipeWire multimedia server.
  • Added plugin for decoding Opus format.
  • Support for the Meson build system has been brought to readiness, which has been tested on all major platforms (support for Autotools has been preserved for now).
  • In the dialog with information about the composition, the ability to copy the path to the file to the clipboard is provided.
  • Added support for FLAC audio streams in the Ogg container.
  • Added support for reading embedded tags with lyrics.
  • In the search interface, the record of the artist of the album is provided.
  • Support for a new database format with information about the duration of songs has been added to the SID plugin.
  • Added support for publisher and catalog number tags.
  • A file filter has been added to the playlist export dialog.
