Nobara 41, a Fedora-based distribution, has been released. Linux 41, which includes additional fixes for issues with launching computer games, streaming, and content creation. Nine installation images are available for download: the official one with a stylized KDE experience, additional images with pure GNOME and KDE environments, Steam-HTPC for the KDE-based Steam Deck, and Steam-Handheld for wearable devices, as well as separate builds of the first four images with proprietary NVIDIA drivers.
The project aims to provide a ready-to-use user environment that does not require any additional post-installation steps and addresses the main issues that Fedora users face. The distribution comes with proprietary components commonly used on workstations, such as multimedia codecs and drivers, as well as packages that are not in the standard Fedora repository, such as OBS Studio, Steam, Lutris, and additional Wine dependencies.
Among the extended fixes offered by the distribution, the delivery of kernel patches is noted. The package includes the latest releases of Mesa and Wine, compiled from the repositories of the main SE projects.Linux Replaced with AppArmor. Patches for Glibc, Flatpak, SDL2, Mutter, and xwayland have been added. Support for FFmpeg and the HIP ray tracing library has been added to the Blender package. Additional dependencies for Davinci Resolve have been installed. A large selection of patches for OBS Studio has been included, including patches to resolve issues with game screen capture using OpenGL and Vulkan, as well as patches for hardware encoding of H.264 and H.265/HEVC on AMD, NVIDIA, and Intel systems. The RPMFusion repository is activated by default.
In the new version:
- Migrating to the Fedora 41 package base.
- The installer has been switched to use a fork of the Calamares installer, developed by the KaOS distribution. The new version is notable for the addition of an on-screen keyboard and additional options. The network access check has been removed — Nobara installation images are self-sufficient and allow you to deploy the system in offline mode.
- Mesa builds use the latest stable drivers for the Vulkan API by default, and builds of such drivers from Git are packaged in a separate mesa-vulkan-drivers-git package. - The first launch screen (Nobara-welcome) has been updated to include links to the Flatpak package discord-canary and the blender package from the Fedora repository. The Davinci Resolve installation interface has been redesigned.
- The Nobara-package-manager (yumex-ng) package manager now supports searching, installing, and removing Flatpak packages. Repositories with stable and beta Flatpak packages are included by default.
- In the editions for TV boxes and wearables, automatic installation of updates is enabled by default and an indication of the auto-update is added. The boot menu display has been removed from the GRUB bootloader. The package includes InputPlumber and DeckyLoader with the Web Browser, Decky Terminal, Wine Cellar, MangoPeel, ProtonDB Badges, QuickLaunch and SimpleDeckyTDP plugins.
- New desktop wallpapers have been suggested.
- In the package with the core Linux The xpadneo Bluetooth driver has been added (for Xbox Elite and Xbox Elite v2). Patches for Lenovo Legion laptops that caused issues with fan control on ASUS laptops have been temporarily removed (Lenovo Legion components can be installed separately via the DKMS module).
