Apache CloudStack 4.12 release

After a year of development, the release of the Apache CloudStack 4.12 cloud platform is presented, which allows you to automate the deployment, configuration and maintenance of a private, hybrid or public cloud infrastructure (IaaS, infrastructure as a service). The CloudStack platform was donated to the Apache Foundation by Citrix, which received the project after it acquired Cloud.com. Installation packages are prepared for RHEL/CentOS and Ubuntu.

CloudStack does not depend on the type of hypervisor and allows you to use Xen (XenServer and Xen Cloud Platform), KVM, Oracle VM (VirtualBox) and VMware in one cloud infrastructure at the same time. An intuitive web interface and a special API are offered to manage the user base, storage, computing and network resources. In the simplest case, a cloud infrastructure based on CloudStack consists of one control server and a set of computing nodes on which guest operating systems are organized in virtualization mode. In more complex systems, a cluster of multiple management servers and additional load balancers are supported. At the same time, the infrastructure can be divided into segments, each of which operates in a separate data center.

Main innovations:

  • For users of all types, the ability to create virtual networks at the data link layer (L2) is provided;
  • Implemented support for remote debugging of control and production servers, as well as KVM agents;
  • Added support for offline migration of environments from VMware;
  • A command has been added to the API to display a list of control servers;
  • Updated libraries used to build the web interface (for example, jquery);
  • Support for IPv6 has been expanded, providing the ability to send data through a virtual router and calculate IPv6 addresses instead of issuing ready-made ones from the pool. For IPv6, a separate ipset filter set has been added;
  • For XenServer, support for online migration of unmanaged storages to managed storages has been implemented;
  • For solutions based on the KVM hypervisor, the support for security groups (Security Group) has been redesigned, correct data on available memory has been transmitted to the control server, support for the influxdb database has been added to the statistics collector, libvirt has been implemented to speed up I / O, the VXLAN configuration script has been redesigned, support has been added IPv6, DPDK support is enabled, settings for running in Windows Server 2019 guests are added, live migration of virtual machines with a root partition in file storage is implemented;
  • The client interface provides the ability to edit the protocol in ACL rules;
  • Added the ability to delete the local primary storage. In the properties of the network adapter, the display of the MAC address is provided;
  • Ended support for Ubuntu 14.04 (Official LTS support for the Ubuntu 14.04 release ends at the end of April).
