The release of the OnlyOffice Desktop 6.2 suite is available, designed to work with text documents, spreadsheets and presentations. Editors are designed as desktop applications that are written in JavaScript using web technologies, but combine client and server components in one set, designed for self-sufficient use on the user's local system, without resorting to an external service. The project code is distributed under the free license AGPLv3.
OnlyOffice claims full compatibility with MS Office and OpenDocument formats. Supported formats include: DOC, DOCX, ODT, RTF, TXT, PDF, HTML, EPUB, XPS, DjVu, XLS, XLSX, ODS, CSV, PPT, PPTX, ODP. It is possible to extend the functionality of the editors through plugins, for example, plugins are available for creating templates and adding YouTube videos. Ready-made builds are generated for Windows, macOS and Linux (deb and rpm packages, packages in Snap, Flatpak and AppImage formats will also be generated in the near future).
OnlyOffice Desktop includes the recently published ONLYOFFICE Docs 6.2 online editors and offers the following additional innovations:
- The ability to attach digital signatures to documents, spreadsheets and presentations for subsequent verification of the integrity and absence of changes compared to the signed original. Signing requires a certificate issued by a certification authority. Adding a signature is done through the menu "Protection tab -> > Signature -> Add digital signature".
- Support for password protection of documents. The password is used to encrypt the content, so if it is lost, the document will not be recovered. The password can be set via the "File tab -> Protect -> Add Password" menu.
- Integration with Seafile, a Git-based cloud storage, collaboration and synchronization platform. By activating the appropriate DMS-module (Document Management Systems) in Seafile in Seafile, the user will be able to edit documents stored in this cloud storage from OnlyOffice and collaborate with other users. To connect to Seafile, select "Connect to cloud -> Seafile" from the menu.
- Changes previously proposed in online editors:
- Added support for inserting a table of pictures in the document editor, which is similar to the table of contents of a document, but lists the pictures, charts, formulas, and tables used in the document.
- The spreadsheet now has settings for data validation that allow you to limit the type of data entered in a given table cell, as well as provide the ability to enter based on drop-down lists.
The spreadsheet processor implements the ability to insert slicers into pivot tables, which allow you to visually evaluate the operation of filters to understand exactly what data is shown.
The ability to cancel the automatic expansion of tables is provided. Added GROWTH, TREND, LOGEST, UNIQUE, MUNIT and RANDARRAY functions. Added the ability to define your own number formats.
- A button has been added to the presentation editor to increase or decrease the font, as well as the ability to configure auto-formatting of data as you type.
- Added the ability to use Tab and Shift+Tab in various dialog boxes.
- Added support for inserting a table of pictures in the document editor, which is similar to the table of contents of a document, but lists the pictures, charts, formulas, and tables used in the document.
