Budgie 10.7.1 Desktop Environment Release

The Buddies Of Budgie organization, which oversees the development of the project after its separation from the Solus distribution, has published an update to the Budgie 10.7.1 desktop environment. The user environment consists of separately shipped components with the Budgie Desktop implementation, the Budgie Desktop View icon set, the Budgie Control Center system configuration interface (a fork of GNOME Control Center), and the Budgie Screensaver (a fork of gnome-screensaver). The project code is distributed under the GPLv2 license. You can use distributions such as Ubuntu Budgie, Fedora Budgie, Solus, GeckoLinux, and EndeavorOS to get familiar with Budgie.

Budgie 10.7.1 Desktop Environment Release

Budgie uses the Budgie Window Manager (BWM) to manage windows, which is an extension of the core Mutter plugin. Budgie is based on a panel that is similar in organization to the classic desktop panels. All panel elements are applets, which allows you to flexibly customize the composition, change the layout and replace the implementations of the main panel elements to your liking. Available applets include the classic application menu, task switcher, open window list area, virtual desktop view, power management indicator, volume control applet, system status indicator, and clock.

Main improvements:

  • Improved clarity of enabling Unredirection mode, which bypasses the composite server for full-screen applications, reducing overhead and improving performance for applications such as games. Removed confusion with the indication that the mode is enabled by default and can be disabled in the settings, and not vice versa.

  • Budgie Screenshot fixes issues with taking screenshots of full-screen apps.
  • The design and padding of the desktop settings panel is close to the design of the settings in the Raven panel.
  • Updated translations.
