After two years of development, the OpenRA project, release 20230225, has been published. It develops an open engine for multiplayer strategy games based on the Command & Conquer Tiberian Dawn, C&C Red Alert, and Dune 2000 maps. The OpenRA code is written in C# and Lua and is distributed under the GPLv3 license. Supported platforms Windows, macOS и Linux (AppImage, Flatpak, Snap).
The new version adds support for assets from the C&C Remastered Collection, as well as preliminary support for Tiberian Dawn HD. Improved implementation of Dune 2000 and added new missions for Red Alert. A new hierarchical pathfinding mechanism has been implemented, which has significantly improved performance on large maps. The implementation of the multiplayer network game has been significantly improved, units have become more responsive with different delay settings. For mod developers, a new map format has been proposed with support for previewing the entire map (minimap) and the ability to use mp3 and ogg sound formats has been implemented.
