openSUSE Leap 15.1 release

On May 22, a new version of the openSUSE Leap 15.1 distribution was released

The graphics stack has been completely updated in the new version. Although this release uses the 4.12 kernel, it backported graphics hardware support that was relevant for the 4.19 kernel (including improved support for the AMD Vega chipset).

Starting with Leap 15.1, Network Manager will be the default for both laptops and desktops. In previous versions of the distribution, Network Manager was used by default only when installed on laptops. However, for server installations, Wicked, openSUSE's advanced networking system, is still the standard choice.

Changes have also affected YaST: updated system service management, Firewalld configuration, improved disk partition editor, and better HiDPI support.

Software versions included in this release:

  • KDE Plasma 5.12 and KDE Applications 18.12.3;
  • GNOME 3.26;
  • systemd version 234;
  • Libre Office 6.1.3;
  • CUPS 2.2.7.
