Release of OpenToonz 1.5, an open package for creating 2D animation

The release of the OpenToonz 1.5 project has been published, continuing the development of the source code for Toonz's professional 2D animation package, which was used in the production of the animated series Futurama and some of the animated films nominated for the Academy Award. In 2016, the Toonz code was open sourced under the BSD license and has continued to develop as a free project ever since.

OpenToonz also supports the connection of plug-ins with effects implemented using machine learning technologies, for example, using effects, you can automatically change the style of the picture and simulate distorted incident light, like in cartoons shot using classic technologies used before the advent of digital creation packages animations.

  • Simplified use of the animation creation tool.
  • Added a new set of Aotz MyPaint brushes (Sketch, Ink, Fill, Clouds, Water, Grass, Leaves, Fur, Eraser).
  • Added a function to write and reload color separation settings.
  • An option for snapping has been added to the control point editor and a Freehand mode has been implemented.
  • An option has been added to the tool for converting images to vector format to align hatch boundaries.
  • Support for snapping to intersection points has been added to the crop tool.
  • Added new effects: Bloom Iwa Fx, Fractal Noise Iwa Fx and Glare Iwa Fx. A search bar has been added to the effects browser.
  • Added a new segment cleaning mode and the ability to select a range of frames to apply it.
  • Added a tool for drawing shapes with multiple arcs.
  • Added an indicator to control the horizontal level.
  • Implemented the ability to customize the placement of the panel with the color palette.
  • Updated dialog with rendering settings.
  • A button for creating a new style has been added to the style editor.
  • Replaced all icons in the settings section and updated icons for all commands.
  • Added support for the FreeBSD platform.
