Release of the EQUINOX-3D package and browser-based 3D Fusion engine

Modestly and imperceptibly, Gabor Nagy is working on his original brainchild, he does not often please with releases, but this is what I want to share with you (highlight at the end).

EQUINOX-3D is a modest, minimalist 3D modeling, animation, photorealistic rendering package that runs on Linux, Mac OS X and even SGI IRIX.

In the new version v0.9.9 of EQUINOX-3D:

  • The .eqx binary file format, which is much more efficient than .fbx files, the author compares 138kB against 15MB.
  • Rendering
    • Significantly optimized shader generator that works with Cg, GLSL and GLES/WebGL
    • PBR shader also works with Cg and GLSL
    • cubemap texture mapper works in ray racer
    • More efficient performance of importance sampling when rendering PBR shaders
    • In the editor, you can save textures that have been embedded, for example, in the glTF2.0 file
    • Improved lighting/illuminance maps, shaders now have the "Irradiance" parameter
    • Support for spotlights in Cg and GLSL shaders
    • Spot and projector lamps have separate diffuse and reflected light parameters
    • Now you can load an image as a background when rendering references
  • Modeling
    • Now you can reload textures modified by third-party applications, or by Equinox itself (Ctrl + R)
    • Extrude along the spline. You can extrude over the entire polygroup, or along each spline separately
    • Edges to splines. You can create splines from mesh edges.
    • Finally a UV editor has arrived, with basic features for now.

Fusion engine is a "game engine" that can run on its own.

In the new version:

  • Now can run in the browser thanks to WebAssembly and WebGL! Due to the compactness of the project files, according to the author, the download is lightning fast, unlike the monstrous Unity. A full-fledged PBR rendering is declared. The author prepared a small a demonstration.

Interesting adventures.
