Thunderbird 140 mail client release

Thunderbird 140, a community-driven email client based on Mozilla technology, is now available. Thunderbird 140 is built on the ESR codebase of Firefox 140 and is categorized as a long-term support release, with updates released throughout the year.

Major changes in Thunderbird 140:

  • Improved implementation of dark mode. The Dark Reader add-on has been integrated into the message panel to automatically apply the dark theme to the content of messages with a light background.
  • An option has been added to the settings for global control of sorting and threaded message display mode in all Thunderbird components. The ability to customize the number of columns in Cards View mode has been provided.
  • New mail notifications now have buttons to mark as read, mark as spam, mark with a star, archive, or delete the message. A policy for selective notification management has been implemented for businesses. Notifications are displayed using native Linux, macOS, and Windows system notification display mechanisms.
  • The Account Hub interface is enabled by default, allowing you to manage multiple accounts for different email services.

  • Added experimental support for setting up a Microsoft Exchange account from Thunderbird.
  • Implemented the ability to generate a QR code for quickly transferring account settings to the mobile version of Thunderbird for Android.
  • Added mail.threadpane.table.horizontal_scroll setting to enable horizontal scrolling support in the message list UI.
  • The ability to work with message filters has been added to the context menu of the panel with the list of mail folders.
