Tux Paint 0.9.27, a graphics editor for children's art, has been released. The program is designed to teach drawing to children aged 3 to 12 years. Binary builds are generated for Linux (rpm, Flatpak), Android, macOS and Windows.
In the new release:
- Added support for brushes that rotate based on the direction the brush is moved to the brush drawing and line output tools.
- Added a free paint mode to the fill tool to interactively paint limited areas with a brush (strokes do not go beyond the edge of the area, but coloring affects only where the brush touches).
- Added six new "magic" tools:
- Panels - reduces and duplicates the image into 4 cells of the selected size (for creating comics).
- Lightning - interactive lightning drawing.
- Reflection - creating a mirror image.
- Opposite - changes the color to the opposite.
- Stretch - distorts the picture as in the mirrors of the laugh room.
- Smooth Rainbow is a smoother version of the rainbow drawing tool.
- Panels - reduces and duplicates the image into 4 cells of the selected size (for creating comics).
- Many "magic" tools have been updated, including Halftone (simulates newspaper printing of photos), Cartoon (makes an image look like a cartoon drawing), TV (simulates a TV screen).
- "Magic" tools are grouped into collections according to their purpose (drawing, distortion, color filters, etc.).
- The interface for setting program parameters has been adapted to improve work on large screens with high resolution.
- On the Windows platform, you can put deleted images in the trash, instead of physically deleting them.
- Redesigned documentation.
