HandBrake 1.11.0, a tool for multi-threaded transcoding of video files from one format to another, has been released. The program is available in both command-line and GUI versions. The project code is written in C (using the GTK4 library). Linux and .NET Desktop Runtime in Windows) and is distributed under the GPL license. Binary builds are prepared for Linux (Flatpak), macOS и Windows.
The program can transcode video from BluRay/DVD discs, copies of VIDEO_TS directories and any files whose format is supported by the libavformat and libavcodec libraries from FFmpeg. The output files can be formed in containers such as WebM, MP4 and MKV, the following codecs can be used for video encoding: AV1, H.266, H.265, H.264, MPEG-2, VP8, VP9 and Theora, for audio - AAC, MP3, AC-3, Flac, Vorbis and Opus. Additional functions include: bitrate calculator, preview during encoding, image resizing and scaling, subtitle integrator, a wide range of conversion profiles for specified types of mobile devices.
In the new release:
- Added support for encoding into multimedia containers in MOV format.
- Added DNxHR, ProRes and AMD VCN AV1 (10-bit) encoders.
- The use of FFV1 video format in MP4 container is allowed.
- Added support for encoding and pass-through of PCM audio.
- Added the ability to change the order of audio channels.
- Added presets "AV1 VCN 2160p 4K" (for faster transcoding on systems with AMD 9000 GPUs and newer), "Production DNxHR" (output in MOV format in any resolution with HQX and SQ encoder presets), "Production ProRes" (output in MOV format in any resolution with HQ and LT encoder presets), "Preservation FFV1" for FLAC and PCM.
- On the platform Linux The GtkFileLauncher class is now used to open files when launched in sandboxed environments. A button has been added to cycle through preview options on the summary page. A setting has been added for changing the interface language.
- For the interface to work in Windows .NET Desktop Runtime 10.0.x is now required (previously .NET 8 was sufficient).
