A key improvement in digiKam 7.0 is a new, completely redesigned face classification system that allows you to detect and recognize faces in photos and automatically tag them accordingly. Instead of the previously used cascade classifier from OpenCV in the new release uses an algorithm based on deep neural network, which allowed to increase the accuracy of determination from 80% to 97%, increase the speed of work (parallelization of calculations on several CPU cores is supported) and fully automate the process of assigning tags, relieving the user of the need to confirm the correctness of the performed comparison.

The kit includes an already trained model for identifying and matching faces, which does not require additional training - it is enough to tag one face in several photos and the system will be able to identify and tag this face in the future. In addition to human faces, the system can classify animals, and also allows you to determine distorted, blurry, inverted, partially closed faces. In addition, a lot of work has been done to optimize the convenience of working with tags, the matching interface has been expanded, and new face sorting and grouping modes have been added.
