GParted 1.4 partition editor and GParted Live 1.4 distribution released

Gparted 1.4 (GNOME Partition Editor) is now available to support most file systems and partition types used in Linux. In addition to managing labels, editing, and creating partitions, GParted allows you to reduce or increase the size of existing partitions without losing data placed on them, check the integrity of partition tables, recover data from lost partitions, and align the beginning of a partition to a cylinder boundary.

In the new version:

  • Added use of labels for btrfs, ext2/3/4 and xfs mounted filesystems.
  • Implemented a definition for the BCache mechanism used to cache access to slow hard drives on fast SSDs.
  • Added definition of JBD (Journaling Block Device) sections with external journals for FS EXT3/4.
  • Fixed problems with determining the mount points of encrypted file systems.
  • Fixed a crash when quickly scrolling through the list of disks in the interface.

At the same time, the release of the GParted LiveCD 1.4.0 live distribution kit was created, which is focused on system recovery after a crash and working with disk partitions using the GParted partition editor. Boot image sizes are: 444 MB (amd64) and 418 MB (i686). The distribution is based on the Debian Sid package base as of March 29 and includes the new release of the GParted 1.4.0 disk partition editor, as well as the Linux kernel update 5.16.15.
