Release of vector graphics editor Inkscape 0.92.5 and release candidate 1.0

Published release of free vector graphic editor Inkscape 0.92.5 and a release candidate for a new significant branch 1.0. The editor provides flexible drawing tools and provides support for reading and saving images in SVG, OpenDocument Drawing, DXF, WMF, EMF, sk1, PDF, EPS, PostScript, and PNG formats. Ready builds of Inkscape 0.92.4 prepared by for Linux (universal AppImage, Snap and PPA for Ubuntu) and Windows. Alpha Release 1.0 available in AppImage and Snap.

All innovations inkscape 0.92.5:

  • Add-ons written in Python have been ported to work with Python 3 (Python 2 support retained).
  • Dropped support for exporting to PNG using the Cairo library ('Save as...' > 'Cairo PNG'), which was often confused with the native PNG writing function.
  • Problems with importing some types of JPG files, usually created on mobile phones, have been resolved.
  • Added support for GTK2 skins in the snap package, which are supplied in common distributions in the gtk2-common-themes package.
