Release of Redo Rescue 2.0.6, a distribution for backup and recovery

Published release of the live distribution Redo Rescue 2.0.6, designed to create backups and restore the system in case of failure or data corruption. The state slices created by the distribution can be fully or selectively cloned to a new disk (with the creation of a new partition table) or used to restore the integrity of the system after malware activity, hardware failures, or accidental data deletion. The distribution uses the Debian codebase and the partclone toolkit from the project Clonezilla. Redo Rescue's own developments extend licensed under GPLv3. Size iso image 410MB.

Backups can be saved both to locally attached media (USD Flash, CD/DVD, disks) and to external partitions accessed via NFS, SSH, FTP or Samba/CIFS sections). Supports remote management of backup and restore using VNC or web interface. It is possible to verify the integrity of backups by digital signature. Among the features, the possibility of transferring source data to other partitions, a selective recovery mode, advanced disk and partition management tools, maintaining a detailed log of operations, the presence of a web browser, a file manager for copying and editing files, and a selection of utilities for diagnosing failures are also noted.

In the new release:

  • Preparations have been made for upgrading to the Debian 10 package base;
  • Added xfce4-power-manager to manage power and change screen brightness;
  • Updated window manager settings open box and panels tint2.
  • Added support for GUI mounting of F2FS and exFAT file systems.
  • Changed the default compression level in pigz (level 6) to achieve the optimal compromise between image size and speed of operations with it.
