Release of Redo Rescue 4.0.0, a distribution for backup and recovery

The release of the Redo Rescue 4.0.0 Live distribution kit, designed to create backup copies and restore the system in case of failure or data corruption, has been published. Distribution-generated state slices can be fully or selectively cloned to a new drive (with a new partition table created) or used to restore system integrity after malware activity, hardware failures, or accidental deletion of data. The distribution uses the Debian codebase and the partclone toolkit from the Clonezilla project. Redo Rescue's own developments are distributed under the GPLv3 license. The size of the iso image is 726MB.

Backups can be saved both to locally connected media (USB Flash, CD/DVD, disks) and to external partitions accessed via NFS, SSH, FTP or Samba/CIFS (automatically searches for shared sections). Supports remote management of backup and restore using VNC or web interface. It is possible to verify the integrity of backups by digital signature. Among the features, the possibility of transferring source data to other partitions, a selective recovery mode, advanced disk and partition management tools, maintaining a detailed log of operations, the presence of a web browser, a file manager for copying and editing files, and a selection of utilities for diagnosing failures are also noted.

In the new release, the transition to the Debian 11 package base was made. In addition to updating the versions of the programs, all the functionality of the distribution kit corresponds to the previous release (3.0.2). It is recommended that you use the new branch with caution for now, as new versions of utilities such as partclone and sfdisk may contain changes that break backwards compatibility. At the same time, it is noted that the main non-obvious problems with the transition to new branches of Debian were resolved during the transition to Debian 10 in Redo Rescue 3.x.
