pkgsrc 2020Q3 package repository release

NetBSD Project Developers presented package repository release pkgsrc-2020Q3, which became the 68th release of the project. The pkgsrc system was created 22 years ago based on the FreeBSD ports and is currently used by default to manage a collection of additional applications in NetBSD and Minix, as an additional package distribution tool, pkgsrc is also used by Solaris/illumos and macOS users. In general, Pkgsrc supports 23 platforms, including AIX, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, DragonFlyBSD, HP-UX, Haiku, IRIX, Linux, QNX, and UnixWare.

The repository offers more than 22 thousand packages. Compared to the previous release, 241 new packages have been added, 1713 packages have been updated, and 115 packages have been removed. Support for the xenkernel and xentools 4.2, 4.5, 4.6, 4.8 packages has been dropped in the new release (versions 4.11.4 and 4.13.1 remain). A big cleanup of Perl packages has been done (some packages that are included in the base Perl package have been removed). Packages with Go and PostgreSQL offer versions 1.15 and 12.0 by default. Firefox and Thunderbird now require at least NetBSD 9 to run (NetBSD 8 has been discontinued).
