sysvinit 3.0 init system release

The release of the classic sysvinit 3.0 init system, which was widely used in Linux distributions in the days before systemd and upstart, and now continues to be used in distributions such as Devuan, Debian GNU/Hurd and antiX. Changing the version number to 3.0 is not associated with significant changes, but is a consequence of reaching the maximum value of the second digit, which, in accordance with the logic of version numbering used in the project, led to the transition to 3.0 after 2.99.

The new release fixes issues in the bootlogd utility related to device detection for the console. While previously only devices with names matching known console devices were accepted in bootlogd, now you can specify an arbitrary device name, the check for which is limited only by using valid characters in the name. To set the device name, use the "console=/dev/device-name" kernel command line option.

The versions of the insserv and startpar utilities used in conjunction with sysvinit have not changed. The insserv utility is designed to organize the boot process, taking into account dependencies between init scripts, and startpar is used to ensure that several scripts are launched in parallel during the system boot process.
