Release of the free emulator of classic quests ScummVM 2.5.0

On the day of the twentieth anniversary of the project, the release of the free cross-platform interpreter of classic quests ScummVM 2.5.0 was published, replacing the executable files for games and allowing you to run many classic games on platforms for which they were not originally intended. The project code is distributed under the GPLv2 license.

More than 250 quests and more than 1600 interactive text-based games can be launched in total, including games from LucasArts, Humongous Entertainment, Revolution Software, Cyan and Sierra, such as Maniac Mansion, Monkey Island, Broken Sword, Myst, Blade Runner, King's Quest 1-7 , Space Quest 1-6, Discworld, Simon the Sorcerer, Beneath A Steel Sky, Lure of the Temptress and The Legend of Kyrandia. Games are supported on Linux, Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, PS Vita, Switch, Dreamcast, AmigaOS, Atari/FreeMiNT, RISC OS, Haiku, PSP, PS3, Maemo, GCW Zero, etc.

In the new version:

  • The ScummVM graphical interface has been significantly redesigned, which is adapted for screens with high pixel density (HiDPI) and translated to output using Unicode characters.
  • Completely rewritten port for the Nintendo DS game console.
  • Added support for pseudo-2.5D games (3D), implemented through the integration of the XNUMXD game interpreter ResidualVM.
  • Added support for Grim Fandango, The Longest Journey and Myst 3: Exile, as well as games:

  • Text-to-Speech support has been added to Sfinx, Soltys and The Griffon Legend.
  • Added options to enable and disable integration with Discord RPC.
  • Added "--window-size" option to select window size at startup (only effective when rendering via OpenGL).
