Release of the free sound editor Ardour 6.9

The release of the free sound editor Ardour 6.9 is presented, designed for multi-channel recording, processing and mixing of sound. Ardor provides a multi-track timeline, an unlimited level of rollback throughout the file (even after the program is closed), support for a variety of hardware interfaces. The program is positioned as a free analogue of the professional tools ProTools, Nuendo, Pyramix and Sequoia. The code is distributed under the GPLv2 license. Ready builds for Linux are available in Flatpak format.

Key improvements:

  • Expanded plugin management options. The plugin manager has been moved to the first-level menu "Window" and now searches and displays all the plugins available in the system and their associated data. Implemented support for sorting and filtering plugins by name, brand, tags and format. Added option to ignore problematic plugins. Added the ability to explicitly define the plugin format when loading (supported formats are AU, VST2, VST3 and LV2).
  • Added a standalone application for scanning VST and AU plugins, crashes in which do not affect the operation of Ardour. Implemented a new dialog for managing plugin scanning, which allows you to drop individual plugins without interrupting the overall scanning process.
  • The system for managing playlists has been greatly improved. Added new global playlist actions such as "New Playlist for rec-armed tracks" to record a new version of all selected tracks and "Copy Playlist for All Tracks" to save the current state of the arrangement and edits. The ability to open the playback list selection dialog by pressing the "?" with the selected track. Implemented the ability to select all tracks present in the playlist without grouping.
  • Improved work with streams with non-constant sampling rate (varispeed). Added a button to quickly enable/disable varispeed and navigate to settings. Simplified "Shuttle control" interface. Saved varispeed settings, which are now not reset after switching to normal playback.
  • Added an interface to disable changing MIDI patches during session loading.
  • An option has appeared in the settings to enable / disable support for VST2 and VST3.
  • Added support for LV2 plugins with multiple Atom ports such as Sfizz and SFZ player.
  • Assemblies for devices based on the Apple M1 chip have been generated.
