Release of the free 3D modeling system Blender 2.90

Submitted by release of a free 3D modeling package Blender 2.90.

All changes in Blender 2.90:

  • On the Linux platform, initial support for the Wayland protocol is implemented, to enable which the WITH_GHOST_WAYLAND build option is proposed. X11 continues to be the default, as some Blender features are not yet available in Wayland-based environments.
  • New cloud model proposed in Cycles engine
Nishita, which uses texture generation based on the simulation of physical processes.

  • For CPU ray tracing, Cycles uses a library Intel Embree, which allowed to significantly increase performance when processing scenes with
blur effect to convey the dynamics of the movement of the object (motion blur), and also generally accelerated the processing of scenes with complex geometry. For example, the calculation time of the Agent 327 test scene with motion blur was reduced from 54:15 to 5:00.

  • For all NVIDIA GPUs, starting from the Maxwell family (GeForce 700, 800, 900, 1000), the possibility of using the OptiX noise reduction mechanism is provided.
  • Two modes for visualizing the hair structure are proposed: the fast Rounded Ribbon mode (displays the hair as a flat ribbon with rounded normals) and the resource-intensive 3D Curve mode (the hair is displayed as a 3D curve).
  • Added the ability to set the shadow terminator offset (Shadow Terminator) in relation to objects to eliminate artifacts with smoothed normals on meshes with low detail.
  • Library support added Intel Open Image Denoise for interactive denoising in 3D viewport and final rendering (works on Intel and AMD CPUs with SSE 4.1 support).

  • Improved user interface. The search operator now covers menu items as well. A new layer with statistics has been added to the 3D viewport. The default status bar now only shows the version, while additional data such as statistics and memory consumption are enabled via the context menu. Implemented the ability to drag and regroup modifiers in drag&drop mode. To simplify resizing, the width of the borders of the regions has been increased. Changed the placement of checkboxes, which are now displayed to the left of the text.

Release of the free 3D modeling system Blender 2.90

  • Eevee's rendering engine, which supports physically based real-time rendering and uses only the GPU (OpenGL) for rendering, has completely rewritten the implementation of the motion blur effect (Motion blur), added support for mesh deformation and increased accuracy.
Release of the free 3D modeling system Blender 2.90

  • Implemented full support for sculpting with multiple resolutions (Multires modifier) - the user can now select several levels of subdivision of the surface (Subdivision, piecewise construction of smooth surfaces using a polygonal mesh) and switch between levels.
There is also the ability to rebuild low levels of surface staking and displacement extraction, which can be used to import models from any mesh sculpting application and rebuild all levels of surface staking for editing inside the modifier. It is now possible to create smooth, linear and simple surface breakdowns without changing the modifier type.

Release of the free 3D modeling system Blender 2.90

  • Added a filter to simulate cloth on a polygonal mesh using four simulation modes.

  • The Pose brush has two new warp modes: scale/transform and squash/stretch.

  • A new tool has been added to the modeling tools to automatically split and remove adjacent faces during extrusion operations. The Bevel tool and modifier now have an "Absolute" mode to use absolute values rather than percentages, and a new method for specifying material and UV for center polygons in odd segments. Added support for Bezier-based adjustments in the custom profile of the modifier and bevel tool.

Release of the free 3D modeling system Blender 2.90

  • In the ocean modifier, the generation of maps for the direction of the spray has appeared.

Release of the free 3D modeling system Blender 2.90

  • In the unwrap editor (UV), when moving polygonal mesh elements, the colors of vertices and unwraps are automatically corrected.
  • Implemented caching of smoke and liquid data in one .vdb file per frame.
  • In the physical simulation of tissues, the ability to apply a pressure gradient that emulates the weight of the fluid that fills the object or that surrounds it has been added.
  • The implementation of support for virtual reality based on the OpenXR standard has continued.
  • Improved support for import and export in glTF 2.0 format.
