Release of the GNU nano 5.0 text editor

Took place console text editor release GNU nano 5.0, offered as the default editor by many custom distributions whose developers find vim too difficult to master. Including approved migrating to nano in the next release of Fedora Linux.

In the new release:

  • With the '--indicator' option or the 'set indicator' setting, it is now possible to display a kind of scrollbar on the right side of the screen, allowing you to judge the position in the overall text.
  • Added keyboard shortcut "Alt+Insert", which allows you to mark any lines for subsequent transition between the nearest labels by pressing "Alt+PageUp" and "Alt+PageDown".
  • The main menu provides access to the command input line.
  • For terminal emulators that support at least 256 colors, the ability to use 9 new color names is provided: pink, purple, mauve, lagoon, mint, lime,
    peach, orange and latte. For colors red, green, blue, yellow, cyan, magenta,
    white and black are given the option to use the 'light' prefix to select a lighter hue. All color names can be prepended with the "bold," and "italic," options to select the appropriate font weight.

  • Added option '--bookstyle' and setting 'set bookstyle' where all lines starting with a space are treated as the beginning of a new paragraph.
  • The "^L" command to refresh the screen is now available in all menus. In the main menu, this command also sets the line with the cursor in the center of the screen.
  • Added syntax highlighting templates for Markdown, Haskell and Ada.
