Prepared distribution release TeX Live 2020, created in 1996 on the basis of the teTeX project. TeX Live is the easiest way to deploy a scientific documentation infrastructure, regardless of the operating system used. For loading formed DVD assembly (3.5 GB) of TeX Live 2020, which contains a working Live environment, a complete set of installation files for various operating systems, a copy of the CTAN (Comprehensive TeX Archive Network) repository, a selection of documentation in different languages (including Russian).

Of innovations you can note:

  • Ability to use group delimiters ({...}) in all TeX engines to specify the names of add-on files in the \input primitive (previously, such delimiters were supported only in LuaTeX).
  • Added "--cnf-line" option to kpsewhich, tex, mf and all other engines to pass arbitrary settings on the command line.
  • epTeX and eupTeX implement new primitives \Uchar, \Ucharcat, \current(x)spacingmode, \ifincsname.
  • LuaTeX integrates the HarfBuzz library, available in the form of the new luahbtex and luajithbtex engines. Added new primitives \eTeXgluestretchorder and \eTeXglueshrinkorder.
  • A new \pdfmajorversion primitive has been added to pdfTeX. Implemented the ability to search for images using the \pdfximage primitive, which works similarly to \openin.
  • pTeX, epTeX, upTeX, eupTeX implement new \ifjfont and \iftfont primitives.
  • Dvips provides encoding output for bitmap fonts.
  • MacTeX to 10.13 (High Sierra, Mojave, Catalina) increased the minimum requirements for the macOS version. x86_64-darwinlegacy provides support for versions 10.6+.
  • Provided an automatic attempt to re-download in case of failure to download the package.
  • Added "tlmgr check texmfdbs" command to check if ls-R files and "!!" specifications are correct.
  • Versioned placement of file names in packages (tlnet/archive/pkgname.rNNN.tar.xz) is provided, which simplifies their use in distributions.
