The release of Tails 5.14 (The Amnesic Incognito Live System), a specialized distribution kit based on the Debian package base and designed for anonymous access to the network, has been released. Anonymous exit to Tails is provided by the Tor system. All connections, except traffic through the Tor network, are blocked by default by the packet filter. Encryption is used to store user data in the save user data between runs mode. An iso image has been prepared for download, capable of working in Live mode, with a size of 1.2 GB.
In the new version:
- Automatic conversion of existing persistent and encrypted LUKS1 partitions to the LUKS2 format, which uses more reliable cryptographic algorithms, has been provided. The key generation function has been changed from PBKDF2 to Argon2id. Previously used encryption parameters in LUKS1 could be compromised using special equipment if there was physical access to the device.
- The installer provides the ability to create a full backup copy of the persistent storage.
- Provided automatic detection of a network connection through the Captive portal when configuring an automatic connection to Tor.
- Tor Browser has been updated to version 12.0.7.
- The interface for working with persistent storage has been modernized. The Create Persistent Storage button has been replaced with a toggle, and descriptions of certain advanced Persistent Storage features have been returned.
The new version of Tor Browser 12.0.7 is synchronized with the Firefox 102.12 ESR codebase, which fixes 11 vulnerabilities. Updated NoScript version 11.4.22.
