Shotcut 21.05.01 Video Editor Release

The release of the Shotcut 21.05 video editor has been published, which is developed by the author of the MLT project and uses this framework to organize video editing. Support for video and audio formats is implemented through FFmpeg. It is possible to use plugins with the implementation of video and audio effects compatible with Frei0r and LADSPA. Among the features of Shotcut, one can note the possibility of multi-track editing with the composition of video from fragments in various source formats, without the need for their preliminary import or transcoding. There are built-in tools for creating screencasts, processing images from a webcam and receiving streaming video. Qt5 is used to build the interface. The code is written in C++ and distributed under the GPLv3 license.

In the new release:

  • Added support for Time Remap filters (Filters > Time > Time Remap > Keyframes), which allow you to change the speed of time on the video to speed up, slow down or reverse playback. The implementation of Time Remap resulted in a change in the project file format - projects created in Shotcut 21.05 cannot be directly loaded in previous versions, with the exception of releases 21.02 and 21.03, in which it is possible to use the project restore function, which will remove the applied Time Remap filters.
  • Added build support for devices based on the Apple Silicon (M1) ARM chip.
  • A switch has been added to the "Export > Export File" dialog to ignore missing filters.
  • In the "File > Export Frame" form, the recommendation for choosing a file name is implemented and the previously used format is remembered.
  • When tracking the title in keyframes, an option is offered to keep the vertical zoom level within the given bounds.
  • An option has been added to the "Convert to Edit" dialog to use part of a clip, when enabled, only the part of the clip that spans 15 seconds before and after the selected position will be converted. Also added "Keep Advanced" option to save settings between sessions.
  • Added hints for keyboard shortcuts that can be used when moving keyframes.
  • Improved sound quality when selecting the pitch equalization level (Properties > Pitch Compensation) from 0.5 to 2.0.
  • Updated versions of FFmpeg 4.3.2, Rubberband 1.9.1 and MLT 7.0.0.
  • Improved color accuracy in video preview.
  • Reduced memory consumption when changing the audio sample rate.
