Release of virt-manager 3.0.0, interface for managing virtual environments

Red Hat Company released a new version of the graphical interface for managing virtual environments - Virt-Manager 3.0.0. The Virt-Manager shell is written in Python/PyGTK and is an add-on for libvirt and supports the management of systems such as Xen, KVM, LXC and QEMU. Project code spreads licensed under GPLv2.

The program provides tools for visual assessment of statistics on performance and resource consumption by virtual machines, creation of new virtual machines, configuration and redistribution of system resources. To connect to virtual machines, a viewer with support for VNC and SPICE protocols is provided. The package additionally includes command-line utilities for creating and cloning virtual machines, as well as editing libvirt settings in XML format and creating a root FS.

  • Added by support for installation with configuration via cloud-init (virt-install --cloud-init).
  • Removed the virt-convert utility, which should be replaced by virt-v2v, and reduced the number of XML configuration options for which the provided XML editor is recommended.
  • A manual installation mode has been added to the interface for creating a new virtual machine, which allows you to create a VM without the presence of installation media. Removed support for network installation (for network boot, use manual mode).
  • Redesigned interface for cloning virtual machines.
  • An XML settings editor has been added to the virtual machine migration interface.
  • Added options to disable auto-connection of the graphical console.
  • CLI options added "--xml XPATH=VAL" (for directly changing XML settings), "--clock", "--keywrap", "-blkiotune", "--cputune", "-features kvm.hint-dedicated .state=", "--iommu", "--graphics websocket=", "--disk type=nvme source.*".
  • Added "--reinstall=DOMAIN", "--autoconsole text|graphical|none", "--os-variant detect=on,require=on" options to virt-install.
